Water Treatment
All re-circulatory system water will be subject to corrosion, unless an appropriate water treatment is applied. This means that the efficiency of your system will deteriorate as corrosion / sludge accumulates within the system and boiler. Risking damage, noise and circulating problems to heat exchangers and pumps.
The most common corroded metal in a central heating system is mild steal in a radiator. Where a large part of the radiator becomes plated with copper, as can happen in new systems where flux has been abused, inevitably there will be points within the area of copper not coated. Galvanic action then occurs. At this point corrosion is rapid and radiators start to leak, this is pinhole corrosion. Sludge in the form of magnetite will produce cold spots and will tend to build up in the bottom of radiators, producing cold areas to the bottom of the radiator and constant venting.
Plastic pipe systems on central heating
Any plastic pipe unless the pipe has a manufactured barrier, can pull small amounts of air into the system this will constantly introduce quicker corrosion problems. Any plastic pipe systems will require a constant dose of inhibitor to keep the system corrosion free.
Any system with corrosion levels will increase the gas consumption on the boiler and will make your heating system less efficient.
For optimum performance of the boiler and the associated central heating system, must be flushed in accordance with BS 7593
Corrosion Control
System power flushing is the only effective way of removing all sludge deposits, with the use of a high pressure flushing unit your system can be restored and corrosion free with the use of Sentinel products. Any system with this problem will require flushing. Where as the correct equipment is used as supplied by the manufacturer, and training has been carried out to ensure correct use of the equipment, in some cases not all deposits can be guaranteed to be removed completely.
